Today’s Gospel from Matthew 22:1-10 can be headed ‘Invite everyone you can to the wedding’.
Jesus uses the image of a wedding feast to describe the ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ and because some people were making excuses for not wanting to come to the wedding the king in the story opens up the invitation to everyone.
God’s hospitality and welcome is open to all even those who think they are not worthy or deserving. I was reminded again of my song ‘All Are Welcome Here' from ‘Truly Blessed’.
You may like to listen to the song and follow the lyrics.
Imagine Christ extending his hands towards you in welcome and mercy.
All are welcome here
All are welcome here
Christ invites us as we are. All are welcome here.
Our weakness and our pain
Our sorrows and our shame
Christ invites us each by name
All are welcome here
In this place there is no room for judgement
In this place there is no room to condemn
We are all on this journey together
Welcome in, Welcome in
Our troubles and our cares
Our failings through the years
Christ desires to calm our fears
All are welcome here
Despite what some may say
Despite what some may do
Christ is standing at the door
And his welcome is true
In this place there is no room for judgement…
All are welcome here…..
