Today, on this Sunday, all around the Catholic World we are celebrating the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The cross which was a means of humiliating torture and death is now for those who believe a symbol of victory and salvation over the forces of evil, oppression and death. Despite the suffering and challenges in our own lives we are called to be pilgrims of hope because Jesus leads the way. He asks us to take up our cross and follow him. When we look upon the Cross, we are reminded of what Jesus went through for us, that he is our Saviour and the source of life.

From the readings today...….Moses fashioned a bronze serpent which he put on a standard, and if anyone was bitten by a serpent, he looked at the bronze serpent and lived .

….he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross but God raised him high.....

The Son of Man must be lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.

The song I have chosen for you this week is 'Only Jesus' which refers to Jesus being 'lifted up'

upon the cross. Click on the highlighted title of the song to listen to the track.

Only Jesus

Raise

Raise our eyes

Raise our eyes and see

Only Jesus

Jesus

Only Jesus

Raise our eyes and see

Only Jesus

Do

Do not be afraid

Do not be afraid

For I am with you

With you

Always with you

Do not be afraid

I am with you.

Only Jesus lifted up

Only Jesus lights the way

Source of life and source of grace

He is near, behold his face

Raise

Raise our eyes

Raise our eyes and see

Only Jesus

Jesus

Only Jesus

Raise our eyes and see

Only Jesus

A question to ponder: Where in my family or community do I need to “lift my eyes” to Christ for healing and strength?

Blessings on your week
