St Peter acknowledges the saving power of the Lord protecting him from the hand of Herod in the Acts of the Apostles 12:1-11.
St Paul in his second letter to Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18 gives us a powerful understanding of his life’s mission, ‘I have fought the good fight to the end, I have run the race to the finish, I have kept the faith……
With St. Peter, we experience and can reflect upon the challenging, difficult, and frightening moments we face as humans, knowing the Lord is our Saviour too, helping us persevere and move forward.
All of us in the spirit of St Paul continue to run the race and treasure the faith we have received.
We share in the mission of Jesus to bring about his kingdom. We encourage and inspire each other when we live authentic and faithful lives responding to the gifts and graces we receive along the way.
We are all too aware of our limitations and weaknesses but gain incredible strength from those around us who have had to face challenges and difficulties in their lives and kept running the race despite everything. We all need each other. St Paul boasted about his weaknesses because he said ‘when I am weak then I am strong having to rely completely on the grace of Christ and in so doing become the great missionary Apostle among the Gentiles.
Through the intercession of St Peter and St Paul we pray for Pope Leo and his mission among us and pray for each other to live out God's call generously and cheerfully.
The song I have chosen for you this week, 'How can I keep from singing' from 'A Noble Work'.
Blessings on your week.
