Something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire
Something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire

The opening verse of the song I am sharing with you this week came about because of the scripture passage from Acts 2:13

some people mocked the apostles, saying they were drunk from new wine.

St Peter explained that the apostles were not drunk but filled with the Holy Spirit. It was too early in the day to be drunk anyway.

Drink the new wine of the Spirit

Laugh like never before

Come now; speak the word that leaves you wanting more

Seek understanding

Share and inspire

There rests upon us tongues of fire

Come fill our lives with the freedom

Only the Spirit can give

Because hearts set free are those destined to live

Just as the river runs to the sea

The Spirit flows through you and me

Come with our longings, culture and faith

Celebrate oneness here in this place

Remember that we are beloved

Sons and daughters of God

Come now; let’s rejoice in God’s unconditional love

Seek understanding…….

Today's Gospel from John 14:15-16, 23-26 has Jesus saying to the Apostles that the Holy Spirit will teach them everything and remind them of all he said to them.

Through the Holy Spirit we have access to the very life of God acting upon us and inspiring us to to follow Christ and to become more and more like him.

When we seek unity, forgiveness, understanding and experience joy, peace and love in our lives we can be sure that the Holy Spirit is at work.

Holy Spirit, help us to recognise you in the ordinary flow of our lives.

'Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle within us the fire of your love....'
