Give the Lord glory and honour. Give the Lord our very selves.

Jesus in the Gospel from, Matthew 22: 15-21, asks us to consider what truly belongs to God. The coin carried Caesar's image, so it could be returned to Caesar. The Book of Genesis tells us that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God. If the coin belongs to Caesar because it carries his image, then we belong to God because we carry His image.

With the upcoming election in New Zealand, it's appropriate that we participate in civil society and contribute to the common good by paying taxes and behaving in just and moral ways. In living our lives influenced by the Gospel we are giving both to our society and to God.

While Caesar might have a right to our money, God has a right to our hearts.
