Summer is in the Air

I was sitting in our garden and the thought came to me that God’s love is like the air we breathe.

The great commandments of love given to us in Matthew 22:34-40, the first, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.’ and the second, ‘You must love your neighbour as yourself’ would be impossible to live out unless God had first loved us and continues to love us. Our love for God, neighbour and ourselves is a grace filled response to God’s love.

It’s as if we breathe in God’s love that fills and sustains us and we breathe out in gratitude that loving response to others including ourselves.

We take our breathing for granted but where would we be without it? Where would we be without God’s love? Where would the world be without all those acts of selfless love towards others?

I invite you to listen to ‘Breathing In and Breathing Out’ from Chants for Silence.
