So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, ‘If anyone wants to be first, he must make himself last of all and servant of all.’ He then took a little child, set him in front of them, put his arms round him, and said to them, ‘Anyone who welcomes one of these little children in my name, welcomes me; and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.’ From Mark 9:30-37
Given the Gospel extract above, this week I want to share a beautiful song inspired by Craig when he was only 4 years old. It is called, 'A Parcel Inside.'
A Parcel inside
Daddy, I’ve got a parcel inside of me
Daddy, Dear God wants me to give it to you
It’s invisible, but I know it’s there
Daddy I’ve got a parcel with you to share
I want to share it with everyone I meet
I know dear God wants me to give it away
It’s invisible
It’s something we feel
Daddy I see in your eyes that you know it’s real
Listen to children
Listen to children
Treasure all the little ways they care
For all of us have a parcel inside to share
Daddy, come follow me to the waterside
Come down and watch me run and play in the sand
It’s so wonderful to be here with you
Daddy I see in your smile that you know it too.
Listen to children
Jesus loved children, their simplicity, openness, need for others and drew attention to their lack of power and influence to challenge his disciples and their vying for position. They teach us a great deal about the way to interact with people. They are a source of joy and delight. May we experience those gifts today and throughout the week.
