The title and lyrics are below.
This Sunday's Gospel is taken from John 21:1-19. It includes the moving encounter of St Peter with the Risen Lord on the shore of the lake. Jesus asks him 3 times, 'Simon son of John, do you love me?' Peter humbled by his 3-fold denial of Christ, confirms his love for Jesus and he is renewed and commissioned to take up his leadership role as shepherd.
Our tradition teaches us what Peter and the other disciples were prepared to do for Christ and the spread of the Gospel out of love. Their love was truly tested and ultimately they gave their lives.
On Thursday we celebrated the feast of our Marist confrere, St Peter Chanel. He too was someone whose love for Christ and his people was heroically tested on the island of Futuna.
I wrote 'Loved is prepared' after listening to the story of a married couple and the sacrifices they were prepared to make with regard a very challenging situation they faced. I hope the words speak to you and your experience and renew your commitment to those you share your life with and are called to serve.
Love is prepared to do great things.
Let others fly and spread their wings
Sacrifice their own desires
That’s what love is prepared to do
Put others first and stand beside as a
tower of strength and a mountain guide
Give tender hearts the time to grow
That’s how love is prepared you know
When hope seems lost and each door is closed
When lives are hurt and their sorrow shows
Love is prepared and compassion flows like a river
Like a river
Love is prepared to be there and more
Face the challenges that life has in store
Never give up or run away
That’s what love is prepared to do
Love understands when the heart’s afraid
And always forgives when mistakes are made
Love will endure when all else will fade
That’s what love is, that’s what love is
When hope seems lost and each door is closed
When lives are hurt and their sorrow shows
Love is prepared and compassion flows like a river
Like a river
Blessings on your week
